Women couldn’t own any property and young girls aged fourteen were sent off to get married to men who were in their twenties. In 1740, women in France didn’t have many rights. This is important because women need a reminder that they are free and are free to make their own marriage choice. ![]() The women had to learn to love them or at least try to love them as the time went by. Their father chose the man they wanted their daughter to marry. The book includes romance and it also focuses on the issues women had within their marriage rights in the mid 18th century. The book has many plot twist and isn’t just about the monstrous beast. In 1740, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, wrote the original book about Beauty and the Beast. ![]()
